Certified Lab Diamonds

One

A Diamond
Seed

The process begins with a diamond seed made of pure carbon. The creation process is called chemical vapor deposition.

Two

Solar-Powered
Reactor

The seed is then placed in a solar-powered reactor and heated to approximately 800° Celsius.

Three

Natural Gases Fill
The Reactor

The chamber is then filled with methane gas, hydrogen gas and carbon gas, which ionizes into plasma.

Four

The Rough
Diamond

A lab-grown rough diamond is created with the same crustal structure as one extracted from the earth.

Five

600 Hours
Later

The process of growing the diamond continues as the pure carbon adheres to the seed and crystallizes.

Six

Cut &
Polish

The lab-grown rough is then cut and polished with the same flash fire and brilliance as a diamond extracted from the Earth.

Discovering Lab Grown Diamonds

Discovering Certified
Lab Diamonds

You might wonder: How can anything concocted in a laboratory can compare to what is organically found in nature? With new technologies and sustainable practices, there are lots of benefits to lab created diamonds, which are very much “real”. In fact, these marvels possess identical chemical attributes as their naturally occurring counterparts. They are just as “real” as a diamond mined from the earth. The primary difference is their origin.
Perhaps the biggest upside to choosing lab diamonds is that there is no mining involved reducing the impact on the environment and offering you ethical luxury. Another benefit is maximizing your budget without sacrificing quality. Keep in mind, lab diamonds have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as mined diamonds.
At Shannon Green Jewelry, we only buy certified lab grown diamonds that are expertly crafted to the highest quality of standards.

The Birth of lab-created diamonds

Lab grown diamonds begin their journey as minuscule carbon seeds harvested from existing diamonds. Scientists harness state-of-the-art techniques, employing either extreme pressure and heat or a specialized deposition process, known as chemical vapor deposition (CVD), to emulate the natural diamond formation process. Over a period of six to ten weeks, these techniques yield a raw diamond, which is subsequently transformed through cutting, polishing, and incorporation into exquisite lab diamond jewelry pieces.

Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD):

CVD entails placing a seed diamond within a compact vacuum chamber, saturated with heated hydrogen and carbon-containing gases. At a specific temperature, these gas molecules disintegrate, initiating the formation of crystallized carbon layers around the seed, fostering the growth of a more substantial diamond. In some instances, lab diamonds produced via CVD may also undergo pressure and heat treatment following their growth.
Distinguishing between natural diamonds and lab diamonds created through the HPHT or CVD methods is an endeavor beyond the capabilities of the naked eye, as only discerning scientists can differentiate them by scrutinizing identifying markers that arise from their unique growth conditions.
With unwavering dedication to originality and environmental sustainability, each of Shannon’s engagement or wedding sets are meticulously shaped with certified lab diamonds, artfully encapsulating the individual love stories they represent. The journey commences with the inception of an idea, a spark that ignites the path to an everlasting commitment. This is where your narrative of eternal love and unique beauty truly begins.
